This family-friendly opera is based on the life of Marian Anderson, one of the most celebrated singers of the 20th century, who broke racial barriers throughout her storied career, becoming the first Black singer to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in 1955. Recent and future roles include the Princess in Suor Angelica and Lady Catherine de Bourgh in the stage premiere of Kirke Mechem’s Pride and Prejudice at Peabody Opera Theatre, the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel at Opera Saratoga, and the Governess in The Queen of Spades at Des Moines Metro Opera.īass-baritone Vladyslav Buialskyi hails from Berdyansk, Ukraine, and is in his second year of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.
